Painting from a still life display is an excellent method for learning the craft of realistic painting.  Selecting and arranging objects helped me organize my ideas in preparation for the painting process.  It is very challenging to depict the textures of various objects like wood, glass, metal, plants and other materials.  I enjoy painting toys and antiques as still life subjects.  They are curious and intriguing and provide a point of interest  between the viewer and myself.
